IT'S EMANCIPATION DAY. 

It’s Emancipation Day. You’ve spent years in the foster care system, and now you’ve reached the age where the state is no longer responsible for you. In just one day you go from having food, shelter, income, and a caseworker you can turn to for assistance and guidance, to none of these things. This is the story of countless youth, between the ages of 18-24, who leave the foster care system; and it is the story of Katina Green, the Founder and President of Bridging Heart.

1 in 4 Kids

that age out of the system will not graduate from high school or pass the GED.

After reaching the age of 18

20% of children who were in foster care will become homeless.

60% of young men

who age out of the foster care system and are legally emancipated have been convicted of a crime. 

1 out of every 2

foster kids who age out of the system will have some form of gainful employment by the age of 24.

60% of all child sex-trafficking victims

have also been in foster care.

earn a college degree at any point in their life.
